This studio, which primarly creates works of Architecture is for all intents and purposes my work. Yes, there have been various employees over the years but I have always maintained my hand in the work. I tend to be very hands on and extremely connected to my work. Over the years I have practiced I have honed a set of skills that are atypical of my peers and have continued to polish those skills consistently adopting new technologies as they have been made available to me.
All of the projects shown here were or are being created following essentially the same process. I listen, carefully to the client and to either the building (to be renovated or restored) and then I charette. The result of this typically ends with a fairly strongly directioned project. This work is typically produced with simple sketches and more and more with rudimentary computer models.
Once a project direction is found, the model takes over and becomes the one element that governs everything that happens from this point forward. I use a sophistcated modeling software called ArchiCAD which has been the leader of object based modeling for at least 20 years. From these models I create all of my deliverables, project drawings; permit or construction documents, sketch, conceptual and final renderings. All of the output from the software is electronically accessible and easily shared among any collection of consultants.
I am a lucky graduate of the California State University system...in the days before the current budget crisis, where I obtained a Bachelor of Architecture in 1991 and followed that with a Master of Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic and State University/Washington Alexandria Center in 1998. It was while a grad student at WAAC that I began the exploration of the process that I hold so dear to my work today. I will forever be indebted to all of the amazing professors I had at these two fine institutions.
